TIO Definition

Total Information Outsourcing (TIO) is a management approach wich consists for a company to outsource all common information related operations to a collection of Web based online service providers. With TIO, companies can increase their focus on core business processes, reduce costs of information management and accelerate the implementation of information systems.

The scope of Total Information Outsourcing (TIO) includes hardware infrastructure, network connectivity, software applications, support, maintenance, training, consulting and business process operations. A typical implementation of TIO in a company consists of renting laptops configured with a web browser (a.k.a. Netbooks) and subscribing to:

  • a broadband Internet access service provider
  • a Software as a Service (SaaS) provider to run common off the shelf business applications such as ERP, CRM or KM
  • a Platform as a Service (PaaS) provider to host custome developed business applications
  • e-commerce platform to interface with B2B and B2C marketplaces
  • an e-consulting firm to develop specific business applications
  • an e-support firm to provide a Web based helpdesk
  • an e-learning platform to train staff to common business practices and common software applications
  • a Web based Business Process Office (BPO) to process all transactions such as accounting or payroll
